FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Mold Remediation FAQs

How do I know if I have a mold problem?

Visible growth is the obvious sign, but mold often shows itself first as a persistent musty smell, especially in a basement, bathroom or closed-up room. Discoloration on walls or ceilings, paint that is bubbling or peeling, and warped trim are all worth investigating.

Mold needs moisture, so anywhere you have had a leak, a flood or ongoing condensation is a place to look — including behind and beneath finishes where you cannot see.

Is mold dangerous to my health?

Reactions vary a great deal from person to person. Some people notice nothing; others get allergy-type symptoms such as coughing, congestion, irritated eyes or skin. People with asthma, respiratory conditions or weakened immune systems are generally more affected.

We are a remediation company, not a medical one — for health advice about your own situation, speak to a doctor. What we can do is remove the mold safely and address the moisture keeping it there.

Will my insurance cover mold remediation?

It depends on the cause. Mold resulting from a sudden, accidental event that is itself covered — a burst pipe, for instance — often is. Mold that developed gradually from a long-standing leak, humidity or deferred maintenance frequently is not, and many policies cap mold cover specifically.

Your insurer makes that call. We document the damage and the likely source thoroughly so your claim is based on clear evidence, and we deal with your adjuster directly.

How long does the mold remediation process take?

It depends on how far the growth has spread, what materials are affected and how accessible the moisture source is. A contained area in a single room is a very different job from growth through a basement or inside wall cavities.

We give you a schedule after the inspection. Where materials have to be removed and rebuilt, remediation and any reconstruction are quoted as separate stages so you can see what each involves.

Can you prevent mold from coming back?

Removing mold without fixing the moisture that fed it means it returns. That is why every job includes finding the source — a leak, poor drainage, inadequate ventilation, humidity, a failing HVAC system.

We will tell you plainly what needs to change, handle what falls within our scope, and flag anything that needs another trade, such as a plumber or roofer. Some of it is straightforward maintenance you can manage yourself.
